GMG Golf Boys Perform Well in Conrad By: Noah Scheidel GMG competed in golf against Colo-NESCO and Meskwaki Settlement last Monday, April 8, at Conrad. The weather was very suitable for an enjoyable meet with a temperature of 70oF and winds of 5 to 10 mph. The GMG boys won the meet with their lowest 4 scores totaling 185. Colo-NESCO’s low 4 totaled 195, and Meskwaki’s single golfer shot 65. GMG golfer Chad Plaehn was the victorious medalist last Monday. Chad shot 37 on the par 35 course at Conrad. The other 3 of the lowest 4 scores for GMG were Luke Petty, with 48, Kenan Hall, with 49, and Bridger Claassen, with 51. Congratulations to Chad and the whole GMG Boys’ Golf team!
Boys Track Meet At Meskwaki by Scott Rockne The GMG boys track team traveled to Meskawki for their track meet. It was held on friday, April 5,. The shuttle hurdle relay Brandon Weitzell had a time of 18.8 Alec Bovenmyer had a time of 18.3 Mike Tichy had a time of 18.2 and Devon Schuett had a time of 16.0 with a combined time of 1:11.3 They came in fifth place. For the 100 meter dash Brock Fisher with a time of 12.04 came in second and Lansana Mohr with a time of 12.25 came in sixth. In the discus event, Eric Lada came in fifth with a score of 103. The long jump Brandon Weitzell jumped of 15.9, and Bryce Newcomb with a jump of 18.4. He came in third. In the high jump, Brock Fisher had a jump of 5.4 and Josh O’Neal with a jump of 4.1. Brock came in third. In the shot put, Lucas Catherwood threw a throw of 35.8, and Gage Fraser threw 39.5in. Gage landed a thrid place as well. Congrats, to our boys track team on some fine competition!
GMG Jazz Band by: Scott Rockne The GMG Jazz Band will be competing at the Iowa Jazz Championships on Thursday, April 18 at the Community Choice Credit Union in Des Moines at 9:30 AM. Fifteen bands in each classification received invitations to compete—two from each of the six bandmaster districts and three wildcards selected from independent jazz festivals. This is the 16th time that GMG has ben invited. The results will be posted next week.
GMG Relay results by Nathan Swaim GMG had a super productive night at the GMG relays. The relays were held on April 8, 2013. Eric Lada received sixth place with discus. Bryce Newcomb was given second place in the long jump. Brock Fisher had second place with the high jump. Gage Fraser did an excellent job with second place in shot put. The team of Tyler Krull, Ethan Ridout, Noah Scheidel, and Matt Smith had the place of third for the 4X800 M. relay. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Alec Bovenmyer, Brandon Weitzell, Mike Tichy, and Devon Schuett received the place of third. In the 100 meter dash event, Brock Fisher earned second place and Lansana Mohr earned fourth place. Devon Schuett did great in the 400 meter dash with a fifth place. We did really well in our own relay with third place overall. Good job, GMG Track!
GMG Girl’s Golf By : Luke Petty GMG hosted a golf meet at Conrad. This meet was held April 8th, 2013. Lexie Dubberke was the medalist of the meet. Lexie shot a 57. Way to go, Lexie! Shannon Fleming shot a 60. Olivia Barritt shot an 87, and Summer Langenbau shot an 88. Colo-Nesco captured first place in the golf meet, GMG placed second. Nice job, ladies!
GMG Competes at Conrad by Lane Williams The GMG golf teams traveled to Conrad to play a round of golf. It was a cold drizzly day on Monday, April 15, as they began to play. Teams that joined them at the meet were BCLUW, Waterloo Christian, and Don Bosco. The top 6 scores for GMG males were as follows: Chad Plaehn shot a 47, Austin Vaughn shot a 52, Luke Petty shot a 58, Kenan Hall shot a 50, Ryan Spurlin shot a 51, and to finish it all off, Bridger Claassen shot a 55. The GMG girls also did very well on this golf outing. Senior Shannon Fleming captured 1st place! She won the meet with a score of 58. Senior Lexie Dubberke grabbed a 2nd place position! She shot a 60. We are so proud of these two for placing in the top two positions. The other female participants include: Olivia Barritt, who shot a 79, and Summer Langenbau; who also shot a 79. The GMG teams did very well at the Conrad Golf Course.
