Tama County Supervisors Kendal Jordan, Larry Vest and Dan Anderson, listened to three road vacation hearings Monday morning, February 25, 2013, requested by land owners adjoining the land being considered. The first hearing was held at 9:30 a.m. and was for Otter Creek Township. This was for the following area. 295th Street from Highway 43 east to the end, established with a legal description of “commencing at the NE corner of the SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 o Section 8-T83N-R14W, then west to a point on the south line of the NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 8 where the line will meet Old State Road, now known as Highway 43, about 40 rods east of Schoolhouse No. 5 and ending at the above point described. The road was originally established in 1895 and is 40 feet wide. The eastern 1/4 mile of road was vacated in 1983. There was no objections to this vacation so supervisors voted to pass an ordinance to vacate the road. At 10:00 a.m. a second vacation of a road in Oneida Township was discussed. There were several persons present for this hearing. This was for V Avenue from 1667 feet north of 240th Streeet to 282.82 feet south of 230th Street (from 1700 feet north of the SW corner to 315.82 feet south of the NW corner of Sectdion 10-T84N-R13W. After discussion the supervisors voted to vacate. The road vacation is not intended to remove easements for utilities. The third public hearing was held at 10:30 a.m. This was for York Township. The area covered was an undefined portion of 325th Street between W Avenue and X Avenue. The road lies in Sections 26 and 27 of York Township, and was originally established in 1859, surveyed in 1867 anad modified on May 9, 1876. The road is 66 feet wide. There was some discussion on this vacation and some discussion on a bridge involved was discussed. Changes will be made and another public hearing is set for Monday, March 4, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. In other business, county engineer Lyle Brehm said they are anxious to get started to hauling rock as they have had many calls requesting rock. Claims for the past week came to $63,322/31.
