Iowa Department of Education by Tristan Zoffka The Iowa Department of Education is coming to visit GMG on February 26th and 27th. They are required to review each school every 5 years. They will be interviewing several groups: Administration, Instructional Staff, Support Staff, Parents, and Students. During their visit they will review the school policies, yearly calendar, educational programs: curriculum, Career and Technical classes and Special Education. Also they will be evaluating GMGs professional development model. At the end the DE Site team will list any infractions along with GMGs strength and weaknesses.

GMG Inservice by Tyler Thurston There will be a teacher’s inservice on Wednesday, March 6, at GMG. The students will be let out at 1:30. The teachers will start the inservice at 1:45 and it will end at 4:00. The teachers will discuss the curriculum, a review of the site visit, and bullying prevention techniques at GMG. It should be an afternoon of fun for the students and work for the teachers! Have a great afternoon!

After Prom Meeting By: Luke Petty There will be an after prom meeting Tuesday, March 12. The meeting will be from 7-8 P.M. The meeting will be held at the GMG Secondary School. Junior and Senior parents are advised to go. We hope many parents are there to add input to the activities following prom. Hopefully, GMG hosts a great after prom this year!

Ending of 3rd Quarter by Tristan Zoffka The 3rd quarter for GMG will be ending on March 18, which will be on a Monday. All GMG students make sure your schedules are right. If you need to change them, talk to Mr. Pierson or Mr. Polich before the 18th. Seniors this is your last quarter, so make sure you are all ready for graduation!

Jr. High Solo Contest by Nathan Swaim GMG will be hosting a Jr. High solo contest. It will be in the band room at the high school. Times will be set up for the Jr. High band students to perform. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 19, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. It is a Jr. High solo/ensemble contest. If you have a Jr. High student performing or you want to listen to their musical skills, come and listen to these talented musicians.

NHS Welcomes New Inductees by:  Noah Scheidel On Thursday, February 21st, the GMG National Honor Society held their annual tapping ceremony to welcome the new members of the NHS.  To be eligible for NHS, a student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior and also must have a GPA of 3.25 or better.  Twenty-two students received invitations to join, and fifteen of those chose to apply for membership.  All applicants were reviewed by the GMG faculty committee, as well as the current NHS members.  At the tapping ceremony on Thursday, February 21st, eleven applicants were announced to be inducted into NHS.  They will be joining the sixteen current NHS members. The new members will officially be inducted on Tuesday, March 5th at 7 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to come to the GMG cafeteria and witness the induction of these new NHS members. This traditional ceremony has students repeating the NHS pledge and the guest speaker will be Alan Burt.  Congratulations to the new members of the National Honor Society! Iowa Star Conference Speech Festival by Scott Rockne The Iowa Star Conference Speech Festival was held at GMG High School on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. It began at 1:30 pm. A total of 12 schools were in attendance. Speech participants from these schools had a total of 148 entrees in the Speech Festival. The performances were held in centers on the first floor of GMG High School. Coaches from each of the individual schools were the judges. The festival was a good chance for students to practice for the District Individual Speech contest which was held last Saturday, February 23rd.
