Message From Our Mayor

February 15, 2013
Northern-Sun Print
Since my last newsletter, we have had two major ice and snow storms.  Both times Mark Lowry was out very early in the morning (4:30) getting Gladbrook streets open.  He had the bigger share of the streets open by the time most of us went to work.  Then Mark puts in long hours getting the streets widen out, alleys open, corners cleared and excess snow hauled away.  All this along with normal city maintenance made for some long days.  Mark did a great job getting it all done.  Thank you Mark! I hope most of you readers saw in last weeks Northern, we have finally set the date for the 2013 Corn Carnival.  It will be June 27-30.  Sorry it took so long to get a date, but the Corn Carnival Committee thinks it will be worth the wait.  We will have a brand new carnival midway and it looks to be very good.  All of the main events that we have had in the past will be held in their same time slots.  The Kids Parade will be on Thursday night along with the Collectors Fair.  Friday night will be the Grand Parade with Gene Seda being the Grand Marshall in honor of his 40+ years of serving on the Gladbrook-Lincoln Ambulance Squad.  Saturday will be a full day of activities starting with breakfast in the park, tractor ride and 5K run/walk followed by a full morning of kids events in the park.  Saturday afternoon will be a large car show and cruise following that will be the Saturday evening talent show with home town talent both past and present.  Fireworks will end the evening All three days there will be Midway rides, beer garden, food stand and Merchants/Home Business show.  All this is capped with a Sunday Worship service and a dinner put on by the Peace Church and the American Legion.  Come to the Gladbrook Corn Carnival all four days and meet old friends and family.  We will do our very best to keep you entertained and to enjoy your time with us. Corn Carnival is a very big project to Gladbrook and the Corn Carnival committee needs more new volunteers in running various projects including Saturday activities in the park, Bingo, Quilt raffle and anything else you might be willing to help with. New for Gladbrook, at this last Monday night Council meeting, the Fire Department has officially announced that after studying all their options, they will be starting on plans for a new building for the Fire and Ambulance equipment.  This is needed because of the inability in getting any future fire truck in the old building because of high clearance.  They will have more information for you in the near future. After last months article that I wrote on my views of our national government, I received quite a few comments from you.  Thanks to all who expressed their thoughts and for allowing me to express mine.  We didn’t solve anything but it made me feel better.   Keith Sash, Mayor PS – Happy Birthday to my mother, Abbie, who will be 96 this Saturday, February 16th.
