After prayer, a delicious supper was served to a good group of Legion and Auxiliary members by Tammy Oettchen, with food furnished by Linda Wiebensohn, Tammy White and Jeanne Paustian at 6:30 p.m.on February 11, 2013. The joint group listened to Lisa Reinhard as she gave a very interesting report on her many Americanism projects for the year. She not only provides a Flag Day and Veterans Day program at Westbrook, but visits the elementary and middle school classes at Gladbrook and Reinbeck. This year she stressed the importance of voting. Each group reconvened for their regular business meeting, with all reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayer by Chaplain Joyce. President Jeanne opened as we remembered two loyal Auxiliary members lost this past month, Alice Hamann and Neva Petersen. Alice was a 23 year member eligible under her brother Art and Neva was a member for 24 years through her husband, Walter. The Auxiliary charter was draped in their honor and a memorial book will be placed in the library in their memory. The minutes of the January meeting were read with thank you’s read from the Hamann family for the memorial book and from Martha Gamble for yard goods for her ‘bag’ project. Six officers answered roll call. A motion was made by Lisa Reinhard to donate $50 to the G-R After prom project. Seconded and carried. President Jeanne reported on the nutcups and valentines that the Juniors made at their February meeting for the Krull family, the County Home and the veterans at Westbrook and Independent Living. Their next meeting will be March 2, 9am at Westbrook. Group #6 will be serving the noon lunch at the District Junior Conference to be held here in Gladbrook on Sunday, April 28. Kendra Vavroch is District President. The next county meeting is on Tuesday, February 26, 7pm in Elberon. Everyone is invited to get acquainted with the County organization. We will be hosting the 59th annual Tama County government Day on Wednesday, April 11 at the Toledo Reinig Center, and volunteers to escort the students is always needed. Gladbrook will be hosting the Third District Spring Conference on Saturday, March 23 with Groups 4 & 5 in charge of the meal. We will be planning on 125-150 attendees for a soup/sandwich meal. The Auxiliary will be meeting at PUCC with 8am registration and 9am meeting times. The Legion will meet in the Legion room of the Memorial Bldg with the dinner served in the large room. Discussion followed on plans and volunteers needed for the day. The men are asking for volunteers to clean the floors in the Memorial Bldg on March 12 & 13. Bob Knaack and Terry Schmitz will be glad to get a call from you. The Auxiliary ladies will do the kitchen, windows and closets the week of March 5-7. Give Jolene a call if you’d like to help for a half day. Our next meeting will be our Veterans Birthday Party on Monday March 11 with a 6:30pm potluck. Hostesses will be Melissa Sienknecht, Jodi Betts and Karen Eggers. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned with prayer.
