A 3.5 percent salary boost for county elected officials was recommended Monday to the Tama County Board of Supervisors by Compensation Board representatives Jim Roan and Les Koch, both of Toledo. The salaries of elected officials determine the pay of deputies and assistants in their offices which are typically based upon a percentage of the elected officals pay. Members of the compensation board who met to decide the salary recommendation were Dave Forbes, Traer, representing Sheriff Dennis Kucera, Nick Podhajsky, Traer, representing Board of Superviors members Dan Anderson, Larry Vest and Kendall Jordan; Lesa Haughey, Tama, representing County Treasurer Michelle Yuska; Roan, representing County Attorney Brent Heeren; Koch, representing County Auditor Laura Kopsa. Absent was Janice Bazal, Vining, who represents County Recorder Deborah Kupka. It was unanimous for a recommendation of the 3 1/2 percent increase in salaries for the year 2013, The motion was made by Dave Forbes, seconded by Les Koch and all voting aye. Current pay for elected officials in Tama County is: County Attorney $73,240 Sheriff $61,269 Auditor $47,961 Treasurer $47,894 Recorder $47,830 Supervisor $26,159 Road Report Lyle Brehm, county engineer, told supervisors in his weekly road report the road crew has been working on the Garwin shed being built. The plan is to paint the inside walls. The building now has some electricity, but is not completed. Brehm said they are not hauling rock at the present time unless in case of hazardous conditions. The road crew is also working on maintenance of equipment following the storm. Work on Highway D65 has been completed except for the three miles scheduled for this next year, if possible. The county treasurer’s annual report was read and approved, showing the ending balance as of December 31, 2012, being $13,083,555. Claims approved for the past week came to $174,838.60.
