Before Judge Sean W. McFarland in Tama County District Court in Toledo: Glen Richard Arthurs, 32, received a pair of five-year prison sentences which were suspended on two counts of failure to comply with the Sex Offender Registry, second or subsequent offense. He was also fined $750 on each charge and placed on probation for three years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. He  was also directed to pay a $300 supervisory fee. Arthurs pled guilty to the charges earlier.  He was originally charged on Oct. 10, 2012, after providing the Tama County Sheriff’s Office with an old address of rural Chelsea. Investigation found Arthurs was living in the 200 block of 1st Avenue in Elberon next door to day care. Sex offender registrants are prohibited from living within 2,000 feet of a school or day care facility. The charges were filed by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Michael Wright.  Elmer Abel Maldonado, 22, Toledo, pled guilty to 1st offense drunken driving, He was sentenced to three days in jail with credit for three days already served, fined $1,250 and directed to complete drinking drivers school.  He was charged on Nov. 17 by Toledo Police Officer Brian Randall on Business Route 30. Maldonado  also admitted violation of terms and conditions of probation. He was found in contempt of court and ordered to reside at the Hinzman Center for 365 days or until maximum benefits are achieved. Derrale C. Magee, 33, Tama, pled guilty to charges of tampering with a witness, obstruction of prosecution and child endangerment. He was sentenced to suspended two-year prison terms on each charge, fined a total of $1,875 and assessed a $125 lawn enforcement initiative surcharge.  Magee was placed on probation for two years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services and directed to pay a $300 supervisory fee. He was charged with making threats with intent to improperly influence a person, making a witness having knowledge in a case to consider leaving the state, hiding or failing to appear when subpoenaed during the period of Oct. 6 - Nov. 29, 2012. He was also accused on acting in a manner which could cause substantial risk to a child on Oct. 5, 2012.  An additional charge of child endangerment was dismissed. The charges were filed on Dec. 7 by Assistant Tama County Attorney Niki Whiteacre.
