“Rebels Win Over Trojans” On January 8, 2013, the Rebels hosted the West Marshall Trojans in a seventh grade boys basketball game in Gladbrook. Starting in the first half, the Rebels jumped out early on the Trojan squad, West Marshall has a good number out for basketball so they split the squad for games which makes it hard to gauge to see if they have their better players playing. On this night the coach informed that some of their best players were not dressed. The Rebels held a 26-8 lead at half time. Beginning the second half, the Rebels slowed the pace and allowed playing time for every one. With the game in control, it was the goal to get everyone in the game to score. Again, all but one player did not as the final buzzer sounded the Rebels were on top with a 45-17 win. “Rebels Win Close Game With Cougars” For the third time in a week, the Rebels hosted a home game with the Cougars from AGWSR on Janary 10, 2013. At tipoff the Rebels found themselves in the land of giants as the Cougars as usual had some players with sizeable height advantage. Both teams went back and forth as it was the Rebels pressure defense against the Cougars half court game. The Rebels were down at half-time with a slim 17-16 score. Second half action saw the Rebels take the ball to the hoop forcing their big men to foul and eventually foul out. Again, the Rebels played their pressure defense and executed plays on offense to secure a hard fought, down to the wire 37-30 win over a very good team.
