Monday morning, January 7, at the Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting, Lyle Brehm, County Engineer, ask for a public hearing for three road closure requests. The date set for the public hearings are on Monday, February 25, 2013. The first hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Tama County Administration Building in the Board Room. This will be for a road vacation of a section of road described as 295th Street from Highway E43 (Dupanda) east to the terminus, commencing at the NE corner of the SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 8 in Otter Creek Township and then west to a point on the South line of the NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of section 8 where the line will meet the Old State road, currently identified as Hwy E43, about 40 rods east of Schoolhouse No. 5 and terminatinhg at said point described above. The eastern half mile was vacated on May 24, 1983. The second parcel hearing will be held at 10:00 a.m. February 25 in the Board of Supervisors room. This will commence at the SW corner of Section 10 of Oneida Township, then north one mile and ending at the northwest corner of Section 10. The road was established on June 29, 1865. An individual owning property adjacent to the road has requested the road be vacated. The third parcel hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on February 25 in the Board of Supervisors meeting room. This will cover an undrefined portion of 325th Street between W Avenue and X Avenue. The road lies in Sections 26 and 27 of York Township and was established originally on February 25, 1859, was resurveyed August 13, 1867, and modified May 9, 1876. Brehm told supervisors road closure requests generally come from a adjoining land owner making a request. A public hearing must be held to see if there is a reason not to close the road in question. Brehm stated the road department had been busy with the snowblower the past few days, also doing maintenance work on machinery. Bridge work in Carlton Township, Section 32 is now being started, the piles being driven now. The deck will not be poured until spring. Claims for the past week came to $101,595.37.
