New STEM Programs Coming to GMGNovember 30, 2012
This summer, a new Iowa STEM (science, technology, mathematics, and engineering) program began accepting applications to bring additional science programming to schools. Last month it was announced that not only did GMG receive approval for a grant (written by Jeff Teske), but that we’d received approval and funding for two programs - “A World in Motion” and “Kid Wind”. This grant will provide training along with thousands of dollars worth of curriculum and hand-on science opportunities, such as kits for experimenting with wind energy, and for building gliders, “gravity cruisers”, and fuel cell cars. Training for teachers will take place at Iowa State University in December, and materials should be available for student use sometime in the second semester. Developing our students’ interest and skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math are very important at GMG, and we look forward to engaging students in this program soon!
