The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has announced that funds have been raised to purchase the 116 acre Umphrey property which filters 40% of the Union Grove Lake watershed. This property will be transferred to the Iowa DNR this fall. Special thanks is extended to Lake and Park Holding Corp. for their leadership gift and to the eight individuals and families who have given at the $1,000 level. Donors of $1,000 or more can choose to be recognized on permanent signage at the area. Gifts are still being accepted for the native grassland restoration that will take place on the land so as to capture silt and nutrients. This will improve the lake’s water quality. To donate toward the reconstruction visit http://www.inhg.org/union-grove-lake-project.cfm. This webpage provides additional information and instructions for donating. Contact INHF’s Anita O’Gara at 800-475-1846 for further information.
