Thanksgiving By: Brittney Everts Thanksgiving is coming up fast! GMG school gets out for Thanksgiving on Wednesday, November 22, at 2:20 PM. This is an early out, and the students come back on the Tuesday, November27th. Hopefully, you all will have a fantastic Thanksgiving Break.
Care Packages for our War Dogs By: Pfc. Grant Day GMG Secondary School’s National Honor Society is selling hot cocoa to raise money for our nation’s service dogs. All supplies have been donated, so all proceeds can buy care packages for these noble creatures. This fundraiser will end just before Christmas, and the goal is to raise $1,000. If you don’t like hot cocoa, any cash donations are appreciated. The care packages include much needed boots, goggles, and cooling vests for the dogs and some treats for their owners as well. GMG Psychology Class Field Trip By: Alex Prusha On Thursday, November 15, 2012 the psychology class at GMG will take a field trip to the State Mental Health Institute in Independence, Iowa. Mrs. Andrea Samek is the instructor of this class. As a side note to parents, students must check out of blocks 1-3. They should be back for 4th block class. Blue slips are due by 3:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 13. Blue slips are provided in the office. This field trip is very educational and informative for the students!
Ten Little Chipmunks by: Justice Dannen On November 2nd and 3rd, GMG High School had their annual fall play. This year’s play was called the Ten Little Chipmunks. The play started at 7:00 PM. Admission was the following: Adults- $5 and Students- $3/ GMG Activity Ticket. The play was about a billionaire, Thaddeus Thornbury, who realized the end of his life was near and he invited all potential heirs to his secluded mansion on Chipmunk Island. This play was extremely funny. A big thank you goes out to Directors Mr. Dan Lastovka and Mrs. Anne Barloon for this excellent performance. The students were hysterically funny. Also, thanks to Jeffery Hughes for filling in at the last moment for Dillon Slingluff, who was ill all last week. Thank you to everyone who came to support all the great actors and actresses in this amazing play!
GMG Anatomy Field Trip By: Gage Fraser Mr. Mark Samek is going to take his Advance Biology 1 class on a field trip to Iowa State University on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Students must check out of blocks 1-3. The bus will be back at the high school during 4th block. This field trip is for anatomy students only. Let’s hope they have an awesome field trip!
Fruit Sales by Brandon Ferris On Friday, November 16, fruit sales will start at GMG. The junior class will be selling fruit from November 16 - November 27, 2012. This will be the third year the GMG Juniors have been doing these sales. The junior class is hoping to raise between $2,000 and $3,000. The fruit will be delivered the week of December 10th. Fruit sales end November 27. Please contact the school at 641-499-2140, if you would like to purchase some fruit and a junior has not contacted you! Thank you for your support!
Girls Basketball by Austin Ridout This week the GMG’s girls basketball team started its two a day practices. Their head coach is Justin Hornberg and their assistant coach is Melissa Dieleman. According to the girls, the coaches are running them and practicing drills to whip them into shape. The girls’ team will be having a basketball jamboree on Tuesday, November 13, at North Polk beginning at 6:30. Come support the 2012-2013 basketball team. We hope to see you there!
