A small but enthusiastic group attended story hour on Thursday, Oct 25 to listen to Lisa Reinhard, Americanism chair, tell a little about Election Day. The uniform date of Election Day, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, was set in 1845. Every 4 years there is a presidential election with the 3 qualifications for a candidate being: 1) 35 years of age or older 2) Natural born citizen 3) Has lived in the United States for the past 14yrs. The group had some ideas of their own concerning qualifications. They knew the names of the candidates and went thru newspapers cutting out the candidates’ pictures and gluing them to the appropriate candidates’ posters. We discussed that it is important to vote so the boys each took the opportunity to write postcards to friends and family to remind them to vote on November 6.
