ourteen members met a the Carlton Brethren Church for our annual Fall Luncheon. Each lady brought one or two covered dishes along with the recipes. We had lots of great food. After lunch was over, President Kathy Thurston opened the meeting with a reading called “One piece of pie too few.” Joan Bacon called roll call. She said with the political ads on T.V., she hoped the remote batteries lasted. However, her question for roll call was, “What was the commercial you remember most or like best?” It was answered by fourteen members. We welcomed Elaine Upah as a new member. This month was the election of officers. Darlene Bovenmyer made a motion to keep same as we have now. Lola Dreessen seconded the motion. All was in favor. The officers are President Kathy Thurston; Vice-President Vivian LeVier, and Secretary/Treasurer/Reporter Janet Abbe. We conducted the drawing for the Secret Santa’s. Judy Bean had the program. She showed us how to make a center piece out of any kind of a jar and fill with shelled corn or beans or other things and put a ribbon around the top and then put a tea light on top. Then she showed us how to make woven paper baskets. She brought colored paper, the patterns, glue and scissors. She told us these baskets were hung on Christmas trees in Denmark and Sweden back in the 1800’s and gifts were placed in them. They definitely were a challenge to get them woven so they looked the same on both sides and then be able to open up. They were very pretty. Janet Abbe
