Homecoming Week Activities/Winners by: Justice Dannen GMG homecoming has come and gone. Although homecoming week was fun. We had all kind of activities. It was a competitive week for the high school kids. They all worked hard on everything they did. GMG started the activities on Tuesday. Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball was the first activity. The Freshman were versing the Seniors. The Seniors won. Next was the Sophomores versing the Juniors in Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball. The Juniors won. After Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball was over they started the class pyramids. The Juniors placed first, The Sophomores placed second, the Freshman placed third, and the Seniors placed fourth. On Wednesday they were doing the Lip Sync. The Juniors placed first having a total of 8 points, the Seniors placed second having a total of 4 points, the Freshman placed third with a total of 4 points, and the Sophomores placed fourth with a total of 4 points. On Thursday the Freshman and Sophomores were versing each other in Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball. The Juniors placed first in volleyball, the Seniors placed second, the Freshman placed third, and the Sophomores placed fourth. After volleyball they had the Wacky Relay. The Freshman placed first, the Juniors placed second, the Seniors placed third, and the Sophomores placed fourth. On Friday, they had Tug ‘O War. The Juniors placed first, the Seniors placed second, the Sophomores placed third, and the Freshman placed fourth. After Tug ‘O War we had the parade. In the Junior Division were the 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. The 7th grade placed first, the 9th grade placed second, and the 8th grade placed third. In the Senior Division were the 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. The 11th grade placed first, the 10th grade placed second, and the 12th grade placed third. During the week we also had fun dress up competitions. Tuesday was Hick Day and Blake Warren and Shannon Fleming won it. Wednesday was Opposite Sex Day and Jacob Burt and Summer Langenbau won it. Thursday was Super Hero Day and Brock Fisher and Olivia Welton won it. Friday was Spirit Day and Kenan Hall and Megan Slingluff won it. As you can see, GMG’s Homecoming Week is pretty fun. The competitions can get really intense. We have a great year every year. So congratulations to the winners of this years homecoming week. Hope everyone has a great year next year.

Cross Country in Grundy Center By: Kohleah Harris On September 20, the GMG Cross Country Team traveled to Grundy Center for the Spartan Invitationals. The team did very well, and Jeff Hughes was a medalist his time was 19.12 placing him 24th out of the possible 25th. Logan Burt ran a time of 19.38, Josh Raymond sprinted a 19.53, Dillon Slingluff ended with a time of 20.48, Colin Crumrine ran a 20.48 as well. Josh Gruen ended with a time of 22.53. Congratulations to all you GMG runners. A special congratulations to Jeff Hughes being a GMG medalist!

Ten Little Chipmunks By: Cheyenne Wurr The GMG Drama Department is withholding the play the “Ten Little Chipmunks”. It will be held November 2nd and 3rd at 7:00 PM. It has been casted, and everyone is working really hard to learn their parts. It will be directed by Anne Barloon and Mr. Lastovka. So, mark your calendar, and we hope to see you at this delightful comedy!

The Colo-Garwin War by Austin Ridout Last Thursday, Sept. 27, a war began between the mighty Wolverines and the Colo-Nesco’s Royals. The first game the Royals moved in on the Wolverines quickly with attacks of spikes and blocks. The second skirmish was a close neck and neck brawl, but yet again Colo came out on top. The final battle the Royals came back with a fierce might and beat the Wolverines for the final time that night.

Soda Raffle by Eric Lada SODA will be holding raffles during the first half of two GMG home Football games in October. The first will be at our game against BCLUW on Friday, October 12. The second will be at our home game with Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday, October 19. All of the money will be divided between 2013 after prom and the 2013 Carnival to help fund GMG Activities. So, if you would like to bake for our raffle or simply buy raffle tickets, it would be greatly appreciated!

Volley Ball Girls by Brittney Everts On Thursday,September 20, in Garwin, GMG 8th grade girls played North Tama. It was split in to 2 different games. The first game the GMG girls won with 21 to 15. In the second game NT girls won with 21 to 17. Some highlights of the evening were Sierra Witte serving 10 for 10 and Taija Williams with 4 for 5, and Hannah Hinson with 3 for 3. These young ladies are continuously improving their talents on the court!

Winner’s Pack The Gym by: Justin Welton The juniors at GMG won the “Pack the Gym Night”. They showed up with the highest percentage for the high school classes. The juniors were awarded $25. It was a very fun night. Congrats to the juniors!

GMG Fall Fundraiser by: Justice Dannen This year’s GMG Fall Fundraiser is starting October 12, and going on until October 22. The money raised helps to pay for equipment, officials, and new uniforms for junior high and senior high sports teams. Our goal this year is to sell over 2,000 items and raise over $3,500. All students involved in activities will be asked to help sell. Here are a few of the items that will be available for you to purchase: Pizza, Cheese Spread, Cookie Dough, Pretzels, Cheesecake, Desserts, Pasta, and Pop ‘n Go. These items can be purchased form any GMG junior or senior high school student who is in an extra-curricular activity or by contacting the school at 641-499-2005. Thank you for supporting the GMG Fall Fundraiser.

ACT By:Kohleah Harris The regular registration deadline for the October 27 test date was September 21. The late registration window is September 22 to October 5. The December ACT test date is Saturday,December 8. The registration are as fallowes: REGULAR-November 2 and LATE WINDOW-November 3 to 16. The Febuary test date is Saturday,Febuary 9. The registration Deadlines are: REGULAR-January 11 and LATE WINDOW-January 12 to January 18. The basic testing fee for the ATC test without writing is $35.00 the basic testing fee for the ACT with writing test is $50.50. The GMG High School Code is 161-720 Students must register online at All ACT test dates and registration deadlines for 2012-13 are on the school calender.

GMG Loses to North Tama by Grant Day GMG Volleyball players lost to North Tama September 25th. GMG had a total of 3 kills from Sophomore Olivia Barritt, Junior Mackenzie Burt, and Senior Sara Hinson. North Tama had a total of 39 kills. Their lead killers was Senior Shannon Stuart (10), and Junior Molly Dvorak (9). The wins went as follows: GMG 0, North Tama 3.
