Gladbrook United Methodist Women

RoseMary McKinney and Carol Mead hosted the September 19, 2012 meeting of the Gladbrook UMW.  There were 15 members present.  June Klinefelter greeted the ladies and led the group in prayer. Prayer was the theme for the devotions and lesson, presented by Bonnie Murty and Kay Lowry. The minutes for the May 18th meeting and thank you notes were read. Joyce Bruene and June Klinefelter recently attended the UMW meeting at the Chapel Church.  Joyce presented the program on Haiti and the Solar Ovens, the Chapel group gave a donation to the Solar Oven project. Fund raisers for the solar ovens were discussed with the possibility of passing the “Tea Kettle” during the church service. Mary Appelgate reported on the upcoming Election Night Soup Supper.  There will be a slight price increase on some items and the sign-up sheet for donations will be ready soon. September 20th is the Annual District Meeting in Monona and October 6th the Annual UMW Conference Meeting in Ankeny.  June encouraged the members to attend. October 17th is the next meeting.  Everyone was reminded to bring a wrapped toothbrush for the health kits. The group was asked to remember the following with prayers: Kathy Keiser, Joyce Bruene, Kevin Chizek, the Ruth Parsons Family and Patsy Rinz. On September 18th Group 1 visited Westbrooke Acres.  They made fall decorations, played games and served refreshments.  Group 2 will visit Westbrooke Acres on October 16 and Group 4 will visit Pheasant  Ridge on October 22. Today’s door prize went to Bonnie Murty for remembering a  childhood Halloween costume. The meeting closed with the UMW Purpose.
