Homecoming Dance By: Cheyenne Wurr The homecoming dance at GMG was held Saturday, September 22. It was at the grocery store in Garwin. The DJ was Craig Van Vark, the owner of SoundSations. The dance started at 8 and went to 11:30 p.m. It was really fun dance! The dance was a lot of fun. All of the couples looked nice, as did the individuals that attended. It was festive, and a good time was had by all! GMG Loses to Belle Plaine by Grant Day The GMG Wolverines lost their homecoming game on Friday, September 21st. GMG’s scorers were Sophomore Bryce Newcomb, Juniors Luke Petty and Austin Vaughn, all scored a touchdown, and Senior Blake Warren who completed to 2 point conversion. Final score of the game: GMG-20 Belle Plaine-55.
The Spirit Trophy by Austin Ridout The spirit trophy is awarded to the grade who scores the most points during GMG’s olympic like events. This year it was the juniors who walked away with the trophy. They beat out the seniors in tug of war. They also won a close game of volleyball against the seniors to lock in the win for the trophy. The juniors dominated the week, and they deserved the victory!
GMG vs Don Bosco-Volleyball by Gage Fraser On September 20, GMG faced the Don Bosco Dons at home in Garwin. GMG lost 0-3, but they played hard during their games. First game was 9-25, second was 8-25, and the last game was close with final score 18-25. Senior Sara Hinson had one dig. Junior Mikaella Koster had a block, ace, kill and assist. Junior Mackenzie Burt had an ace, dig and assist. Sophomore Olivia Barritt had an ace, block, three kills, and a dig. Next match up for the Wolverines is against North Tama in Garwin.
Homecoming Week Activities/Winners by: Justice Dannen GMG homecoming has come and gone. Although homecoming week was fun. We had all kind of activities. It was a competitive week for the high school kids. They all worked hard on everything they did. GMG started the activities on Tuesday. Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball was the first activity. The Freshman were versing the Seniors. The Seniors won. Next was the Sophomores versing the Juniors in Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball. The Juniors won. After Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball was over they started the class pyramids. The Juniors placed first, The Sophomores placed second, the Freshman placed third, and the Seniors placed fourth. On Wednesday they were doing the Lip Sync. The Juniors placed first having a total of 8 points, the Seniors placed second having a total of 4 points, the Freshman placed third with a total of 4 points, and the Sophomores placed fourth with a total of 4 points. On Thursday the Freshman and Sophomores were versing each other in Ruff ‘n Tuff Volleyball. The Juniors placed first in volleyball, the Seniors placed second, the Freshman placed third, and the Sophomores placed fourth. After volleyball they had the Wacky Relay. The Freshman placed first, the Juniors placed second, the Seniors placed third, and the Sophomores placed fourth. On Friday, they had Tug ‘O War. The Juniors placed first, the Seniors placed second, the Sophomores placed third, and the Freshman placed fourth. After Tug ‘O War we had the parade. In the Junior Division were the 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. The 7th grade placed first, the 9th grade placed second, and the 8th grade placed third. In the Senior Division were the 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. The 11th grade placed first, the 10th grade placed second, and the 12th grade placed third. During the week we also had fun dress up competitions. Tuesday was Hick Day and Blake Warren and Shannon Fleming won it. Wednesday was Opposite Sex Day and Jacob Burt and Summer Langenbau won it. Thursday was Super Hero Day and Brock Fisher and Olivia Welton won it. Friday was Spirit Day and Kenan Hall and Megan Slingluff won it. As you can see, GMG’s Homecoming Week is pretty fun. The competitions can get really intense. We have a great year every year. So congratulations to the winners of this years homecoming week. Hope everyone has a great year next year.
