Local athletes to play volleyball at Central

PELLA, IOWA-Jodie Landt, jr., defensive specialist, 5-3, GMG HS, from Garwin, Emily Stoakes, fr., right-side hitter, 6-0, Gladbrook-Reinbeck HS , from Gladbrook are members of the Central College volleyball team. Twelve letterwinners return from last year’s 24-11 club that finished tied for fourth in the Iowa Conference and made a run to the league tournament final. Central has posted 20 consecutive 20-win seasons, won 12 league titles in the past 16 years and gained 11 NCAA Division III playoff berths, resulting in three national championships. For the 12th straight year, the Dutch received the AVCA Team Academic Award. Central outlasted Wis.-La Crosse to break the all-time national record for most consecutive years receiving the award. It’s the 13th time overall the Dutch have garnered the academic honor. Coach Kent Clayberg is in his 10th season as head coach and 14th year on the volleyball staff. He has a 218-99 (.688) career mark and is a three-time league coach of the year. The Dutch (1-7) open the Iowa Conference slate Tuesday, hosting Wartburg College (7-1) at 7:30 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella.
