Tama County District Court Before Judge Paul D. Miller in Tama County District court in Toledo: Sheldon Ward Whipp, 47, rural Tama, was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $3,125 on a charge of 3rd offense drunken driving. His driver’s license was revoked for six years. Whipp had pled guilty on May 10. A second charge of driving while license was revoked was dismissed. He was charged on Oct. 8, 2010 on Meskwaki Road by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Brian Shimon. Scott Darren St. John, 40, Toledo, pled guilty to 3rd offense drunken driving. He received a suspended, five-year prison term and was ordered to spend 30 days in the Tama County Jail. St. John was placed on probation for three years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional services, directed to pay the probation enrollment fee and to complete a 12-hour drinking driver’s course. His driver’s license was suspended for six years. St. John was charged on Feb. 12 in the 2800 block of U.S. Highway 63 by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Bruce Rhoads. Michael James Grommet, 27, Waterloo, pled guilty to 3rd degree theft. He was fined $625 and directed to pay victim restitution. Grommert was charged on April 12 with removing a tire from a vehicle parked at D’s Auto in Toledo and putting the tire on a stolen vehicle he was driving. The charge was filed by Toledo Police Chief Bob Kendall. On line court records for Black Hawk County show Grommet faces a Cedar Falls Police charge for 1st degree theft for allegedly taking a vehicle from an auto dealership for a test drive and not returning it. the charge was filed on April 13. He also faces a pair of 1st offense drunken driving charges field by Evansdale Police and the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office. Small Claims Pamela W. Keahna, rural Montour vs. Miesha Spencer, Tama, for return of one round diamond solitaire engagement ring on a yellow 14k gold band valued at $2,000. According to court documents the plaintiff loaned the ring to Corey Leyesque to use as an engagement ring for Spencer. A handshake agreement was if the engagement was broken, the ring would be returned to Keahna because of its heirloom and great sentimental value.
