The Garwin American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71 met at the Gladbrook Memorial Building at 7 p.m. Monday, July 9 for their regular meeting and a joint installation of officers. Gladbrook President Jeanne Paustian opened the meeting in regular form. County President Jolene Denbow addressed the group with obligations for the IVH County Picnic and announcements concerning county school of instruction, and fall and spring district meeting dates, county bingo at the IVH will be only once a year and the county ice cream social and past presidents party are being dispensed with. The group divided for separate business meetings. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were given and an update on popcorn stand receipts. RAGBRAI details were reviewed. For IVH Picnic, Sat., Aug. 4 Crystal will furnish two pies, Tammy and Jenny, fruit bowls, and Jane, the fried chicken. Those planning to attend are Jane, Joannie, Mary, and Elaine. A veteran’s memorial project at the Garwin Cemetery was presented. More details will be available at the meeting August 6 at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall. County School of Instruction for Presidents and Secretaries will be Aug. 21, 6:30 p.m., at the Gladbrook Memorial Building. September 25 joint county meeting at Gladbrook. 3rd District fall conference Sat., Oct. 6 at Malloy Hall, IVH. Spring Conference, March 23, at Gladbrook. Garwin will host the June 26, 2013 Joint County Meeting with flag burning and potluck supper. The joint installation was conducted by Jolene Denbow. Garwin officers are: President, Jane Jordebrek; Vice-President, Jenny Gray; Secretary, Bev Judge; Secretary Assistant, May Youngman; Treasurer, Floriss Stamp; Chaplain, Elaine Upah; Historian, Kathy Johnson; Sgt. at Arms, Tammy Anderson and Crystal Anderson. Happy Birthday was sung to those with July birthdays. Two door prizes were given and lunch was served by the Gladbrook Unit.
