Along with Pastor Robert Donner, there were several others contributing to the service. Thelma Sue and Jim Bob returned - to the delight of all. This southern couple presented a display of Marriage Symbols along with some good natured banter. And we should remember that Jim Bob made it clear he would have rather been fishing than speaking. But he managed the event just fine. Actually the couple (in real life they are also known as Rose Russell and Jim Gethmann) also sang a beautiful duet, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”.
Special guest soloist for the Marriage Celebration was Jim Maas. His parents were among the couples honored. Jim sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”.
A good number of couples celebrating 50 or more years of marriage were treated to an old fashioned reception following the special service at Peace Churchs’ 125th Anniversary. The committee duplicated what the setting and food was like 50 or more years ago. One thing that could not be found was the slice of ice cream with the colored bell. Couples present for the celebration included: George and Pat Goos, Larry and Shirley Miell, Merlyn and Marilyn Eggers, Henry and Arlene Horstmann, Allen and Darlene Eggers, Dick and Jolene Denbow, Eldon Wiese (Dorothy was in the hospital recovering from back surgery), Carroll and Marlys Wegner, Larry and Suzy Rhinesmith, Marvin And Judy Wendel, Dale and Leona Osten, Fritz and Juanita Fulster, Erwin and JoAnn Mass, Jack and Laura Osborn and Jay Dee and Sharon Shouse.
