Victor M. Chavez-Rivera, 35, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to 1st offense drunken driving. He received a deferred judgement, was assessed a $1,250 civil penalty and directed to complete drinking drivers school. He was placed on probation for one year to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services and is to pay the enrollment fee. Chavez-Rivera was charged on March 3 at the junction of U.S. 63 and Iowa 96 by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Joe Quandt. Carlo Ramon Garcia, 40, Tama entered written guilty pleas to charges of 1st offense drunken driving and disorderly conduct.. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for 30 days already served on each charge and was fined $1,250 for drunken driving. Garcia was charged on March 30, 2005, at 11th and State streets in Tama by Officer Joe Quandt. Roger Purk, 18, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to possession of marijuana. He received a deferred judgement, was assessed a $315 civil penalty and placed on probation to he 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. He was charged with possession of marijuana on school property on Feb. 15 by Tama Police Chief Dan Wilkens. Jose Javier Araiza Rodriguez, 36, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of fraudulent application for Iowa non-operator’s license. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with all but two days suspended, fined $315 and placed on probation to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services for one year. Rodriguez was charged on April 10, 2010, by Motor Vehicle Enforcement Agency Officer Ryan Ridout. Garrett Joseph Bear, 31, rural Tama, entered a written guilty plea to assault causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to a suspended 90 day jail term, fined $315 and placed on probation for two years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. Bear was charged on Dec. 12, 2011, with assault for allegedly punching a victim in the head knocking the person unconscious and kicking the victim in the head by Tama Police Officer Kimberly Schwartz. Melissa Rose Youngbear, 56, rural Tama, entered a written guilty plea to driving while licenses suspended or revoked. She was sentenced to six days in jail with credit for any time already served and fined $1,000. Youngbear was charged on Nov. 17, 2011, at Oak Street and U.S. Highway 63 by Toledo Police Officer Bob Kendall. Tama Sharon Brown, 28, rural Toledo, entered written guilty pleas to charges of assault on a person in a certain occupation and simple assault. He was given concurrent 30-day jail sentences with all but three days suspended and credit for three days already served. Brown was also fined $315 on the assault on the certain occupation charge. She was placed on probation for one year to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. Brown was charged on Nov. 26, 2011 at Pheasant Ridge Care Center by Lee Posusta on a Tama County Sheriff’s Office citation. Diego Rivera Martinez, 19, Tama, entered a written guilty plea to charges of 1st offense drunken driving and possession of a controlled substance. Sentencing was deferred and he was assessed civil penalties totaling $1,565. He was placed on unsupervised probation. Martinez was charged on Feb. 12 and Business 30 and U.S. 63 by Toledo Police Chief Jeff Harnish.
