Tama County Community Foundation Awards Grants to Area Agencies

The Tama County Community Foundation (TCCF) held its annual awards ceremony Wednesday, July 11, announcing grants in excess of $92,621 to 39 area non-profit agencies and organizations. The TCCF assists in providing resources for a broad range of existing and future charitable needs throughout the Tama County area. Grants are awarded in the areas of: arts and culture; community affairs and development; education; environmental; health; historic preservation; and human services. The following is a complete list of grantees receiving funding from the Tama County Community Foundation. Arts & Culture: •Wolf Creek Players for an audio/sound system •Traer Theatre for a digital/3D projector •Green Mountain Garwin Community School for new stage curtains & rods Community Affairs and Development: •LaMaison Woman’s Club to use signs & supplies for flower barrels on Main Street •Tama County Economic Development for the 2013 Tama County Calendar •American Legion Post 127 for improvements and the completion of the driveway at the All Veterans Park & Memorial •Elberon Community Women’s Club to makeover the Community Center & Memorial •City of Tama for the Tama Mapping project •Western Fraternal Life Association to replace windows on the Lodge Hall Building •Tama County Humane Society to update their outdoor sign •City of Traer for entrance signs for Traer •City of Tama for 3rd Street park equipment •Tama-Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce for a welcome sign on Hwy 30 bypass •Tama County Community Foundation for endowment building and operations Education: •City of Tama Public Library for computer desks for the public •City of Garwin Public Library for new computer equipment •City of Elberon Public Library to upgrade the Mandarin M3 automation system and receipt printer •Norma Anders Public Library for a circulation desk computer & Neibor e-book star-up fee • Middle School for technology •Union Middle School for the Steel of the Knights Robotics Club •Iowa Juvenile Home Foundation for the Herbert Hoover School Library •South Tama Community Schools- Helping Families Help Themselves for childcare services for ESL & GED students •Friends of South Tama County Middle School for technology in their classrooms Environmental: •Tama County Conservation Board for tree plantings (post-storm recovery) and digital A/V hardware for environmental education Health: •Union Middle School for two Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometers for Dysart/Geneseo & Union Middle School •South Tama Joint Recreation Board for the aquatics program •Mental Health Clinic of Tama County for the computer server

Historic Preservation: •Tama County Historical Society for a computer & monitor •City of Tama for Oak Hill Cemetery repair & landscaping •Traer Historical Museum for renovations of the Tama Jim Wilson Exhibit Human Services: •Tama County Council on Aging for delivery of services to seniors •City of Gladbrook Fire Department for narrow banding radio/pagers •Pied Piper Preschool & Day Care Center?for replacing a fence around playground and adding a toy storage building •Northeast Iowa Food Bank for the Elderly Nutrition Program •Genesis Development for automatic doors •City of Vining Fire Department to replace the roof •Montour Volunteer Fire Department for pagers & radios •Vining Volunteer Fire Department for hand-held radios & pagers •Tama County 911 Services for narrowbanding & equipment update The Tama County) Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, has been created by and for the people of Tama County.
