The Gals & Guys 4-H Club Corn Carnival 5K Race, 2 Mile Walk Competition & Kid’s Fun Run was held Saturday morning, June 23rd. This is the 7th year the club has organized the event and it’s grown each year. This year we had 100 entries. The race has a reputation of being challenging because of the climb up 6th street, the 3 block climb up Johnston street, and the climb out of the fair grounds. The race starts at the school and winds through town but also includes a stretch of Wolf Creek Trail. 4-H club members and their families lined the route, monitored street corners and encouraged the walk/run participants. The following local businesses made the race possible with their generous monetary donations which helped cover the cost of the race T-shirts & awards: Gold level race sponsors are Grundy County Memorial Hospital & Covenant Clinic-Gladrook. Silver level sponsors are Brenda’s Bulldozing, Casey’s General Store, Gethmann Construction, Inc., Livingston Law Office & Tama County Pork Producers. Bronze level sponsors are B&G HVAC, Goos Implement, LTD, RJ’s Hideaway. Gladbrook Hometown Foods donated bottled water for the runners and walkers. Keith and JoAnn Sash provided the club with a portable microphone. Thank you sponsors for you support! We couldn’t provide this popular, positive community activity without you. Thanks to all 100 race participants. Runners and walkers ranged in age from age 6 to 65 and were from as far away as Portland, Oregon. Following are the race results: The 2 mile walk competition was well attended. The aim of the walk competition is to estimate how long it will take to walk 2 miles. The participant who’s estimated time is closest to their actual time wins. Our winners: First place: Nathan Wrage, Gladbrook. Nathan’s actual time was only 37 seconds from his estimated time. Second place: Dustin Johnson, Bondurant Third place: Sheresa Lynch, Gladbrook   5K Results Winner Overall Male Runner: Phil Waltermire, 18:54 Garwin 40-44 year age group Winner Overall Female Runner: Taylor Petersen, 18:56 Gladbrook 20-24 year age group Female: 15 years & under Gold: Tiana Saak, Grundy Center 25:05 Silver: Cora Saak, Grundy Center Bronze: Emily Johnson, Gladbrook 16-19 Gold: Taylor Ellenbecker, Tama 22:30 Silver: Shannon McCoy, Conrad 20-24 Gold: Elizabeth Grove, Colorado 22:46 Silver: Abby Johnson, Gladbrook Bronze: Tessa Even, Jesup 25-29 Gold: Ashley Buch, State Center 27:20 Silver: Vanesa Smock, Gladbrook Bronze: April Grove, Ames 30-34 Gold: Michelle Sieh, Reinbeck 27:19 Silver: Leslie Sager, Gladbrook Bronze: Nicole Johnson, Bondurant 35-39 Gold: Sarah Smith, Pomeroy 29:17 Silver: Stacey Busch, Conrad Bronze: Danae Handorf, Traer 40-44 Gold: Rajeen Tonner, Conrad 30:40 Silver: Jennifer Landon, Colorado 50-54 Gold: Marci Bengen, Reinbeck 25:08 Silver: Robin Proescholdt, Marshalltown 55+ Gold: Sally Marzen, Dougherty 27:11 Silver:  Deb Hach, Morrison Bronze:  Sandi Hulst, Gladbrook   Male: 15 years & under Gold: Reece Linder, Cedar Rapids 19:54 Silver: Dylan Hendricks, Grundy Center Bronze: Gabriel Handorf, Traer 16-19 Gold: Brady Ellenbecker, Tama 20:31 Silver: Tyler Martens, Toldeo Bronze: James Norton, Toledo 20-24 Gold:  Titus Klinge, Ames 32:18 25-29 Gold: Partick Oshea, Marshalltown 19:15 Silver: Cale McKoon, Marshalltown Bronze: Tim Klinge, Gladbrook 30-34 Gold: Tristen Switzer, Conrad 24:21 Silver: Tim Riha, Elberon 35-39 Gold: Tom Handorf, Gladbrook 20:58 Silver: Salvador Lara, Marshalltown Bronze: Heath Rhinehart, Conrad 40-44 Gold: Tim Handorf, Traer 25:40 Silver: Mat Garber, Marshalltown Bronze: Paul Clark 45-49                  Gold: Jeff Anker, Des Moines 19:37 Silver: John Dinsmore, Conrad Bronze: Tom Wicks, Traer 50-54 Gold: Steve Feld, Marshalltown 19:43 Silver: Randy Beichley, Gladbrook Bronze: Melvin Raum, Conrad 55+ Gold: Joel Beane, Marshalltown 24:55 Silver: Kim Proescholdt, Marshalltown Bronze: Craig Pfantz, State Center
