“90 Years of Family Fun”, Gladbrook’s 90th Corn Carnival, was celebrated June 21-June 24 with wonderful weather, families, and old friends. Thursday, June 21, was the staring off point for the weekend activities with the Collector’s Fair with many of the collections family oriented, with five generations of toys heirlooms of Karen Handorf, and the salt & pepper collection of the late Zelda Storjohann displayed by her granddaughters, Becky Zink and Kathy Miell. The evening brought Gladbrook royalty, with the crowning of Little Miss and Mr. Corn Carnival, Madison Rohrer and Brock Drew. Jodi Betts was crowned the 2012 Corn Cob Queen and the annual Kiddies Parade was full of family fun. The Grand Parade was held on Friday evening, June 22, with Darrell and Jeanne Paustian has the Grand Marshals. Many family oriented floats filled the parade line. Saturday’s events started with the Breakfast in the Park, the 5K Walk/Run event, Kids Day activities, Sand Volleyball Tournament, Pickleball Tournament, Cribbage & 500 Tournament and Shuffleboard Tournament. Saturday evening brought the Classic Car Cruise with approximately 86 participants this year and Gladbrook Families Have Talent talent show was held Saturday evening in the Gladbrook Theater. The evening ended with a fabulous fireworks show sponsored by Luethje Auto Sales & Service. A Community Church Service “Coming Home to Family” was held a the Gladbrook City Center with a Community Choir, and Pastor Roger White, Pastor Robert Doner, PuCC Interim Mary Winkelpleck and Lay Leader Carolyn Moe conducted the service. Guest speaker for the morning was Nicole Clapp. A community luncheon at the Community Food Stand followed the service. The Carnival was a great success, on to 91!!
