Nathan Wrage, D-Gladbrook, has edged out fellow Democrat Christina Blackcloud-Garcia for the democratic nod in Iowa House District 72. The district - now lead by Lance Horbach, R-Tama, who is hanging up his hat in politics -covers Tama County, portions of Marshall County and a small amount of Black Hawk County. Wrage will run against Dean Fisher, R-Garwin, who has had a jumpstart in the election since starting his campaign more than a year ago. Wrage said he is ready to take on Fisher. He also cited his way of campaigning is how he ultimately defeated Blackcloud-Garcia and how he will continue to campaign against his Republican opponent. “I just did it the old fashioned way,” Wrage said. “I got out and talked to people. That’s how I prefer to campaign.” Blackcloud-Garcia said that she gave it her best, but in the end things didn’t go the way she would have liked. “I just had to give it my all and that’s all you really can do,” she said. Fisher believes that he is in good shape now as they head toward the general election in November and is ready for a hard battle. “I’m not surprised that he took it,” Fisher said. “He’ll be a good and tough opponent so I just have to keep doing what I’ve been doing since last year.” In the end, Wrage said, it’s going to come down to what the people think and who they think is the best man for the job. Wrage currently resides in rural Gladbrook and is employed by the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District as a custodian. Wrage had also worked for Lennox Industries in Marshalltown.
