Claire Reinhard was chosen as the recipient of the Debra McGowan Award. The senior class members of Peace United Church of Christ were asked to submit an essay relating how their family has impacted their college plans or anticipated field of study. The essay author was unknown to the family as it was read.
The award was presented by Debra McGowan's family. Deb was an active member of Peace Church and sang in the Senior Choir. She passed away unexpectedly in 2009 and the scholarship in her honor was established with the theme of family, as that was of utmost importance to Deb.
Claire Reinhard is an outstanding young lady. She is active in Peace Church as a Sunday School teacher and the Senior Youth Fellowship. As a student at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School Claire is the only member of the Class of 2012 to have maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
A total of fifteen college credits has been tallied by Claire while a student at G-R. She is not only academically outstanding, she participates in a variety of activities at G-R.
Brian McGowan noted as he presented the award, "This was a really tough decision, there were several really good entries". Deb's husband, Dave, and their three children and grand-children were all present for the presentation.
