March 23, 2012
A March 31 benefit is planned for Baby Sabrina Hendershott. The benefit will be held Saturday, March 31 at T.C.’s Riverside Pub, 921 North 3d Avenue, Marshalltown. Hours for the event will be from 2 to 8 PM. There will be a free will donation dinner and a silent auction. And a DJ will be playing music. (PLEASE NOTE: attendees must be 21 years old or accompanied by a legal guardian.) Sabrina was born at MMSC on February 11 and immediately transferred to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. On March 3 she was transferred by life-flight to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Her parents are Tabitha Meyers and Patrick Hendershott. Tabitha is a GMG graduate. Grandparents of Sabrina are Mark and Kim Shipley and Randy Meyers and James and Alta Hendershott of Marshalltown. Sabrina’s family has remained with her and is currently staying at he Ronald McDonald House. The medical obstacles have been monumental for little Sabrina. She has been on a ventilator and doctors determined there is a narrowing of the bronchi and she is not able to expel carbon dioxide from her one lung. Consequently her CO2 levels have remained critically high. Pediatric surgeons in Iowa City performed a broncho scope and adjusted the intubation tube. Sabrina was then sedated and paralyzed. At press time she was being slowly weaned from the ventilator and is working towards breathing regular room air. She has even opened her eyes and her stats improve greatly when her mother touches her. Organizers of the benefit for Sabrina are Niki Johnson (641-485-5512), Kaytlan Kingrey (515-447-7689) and Betsy Shipley (641-328-9117). They will also accept donations for the silent auction. Cash donations may be sent to Sabrina Hendershott Fund, Bank of the West, 802 South Center, Marshalltown, 50158. March 31 is a day of benefits for area residents as the Support Ohrt Benefit will be held at the Gladbrook Memorial Building from 10:30 to 1 PM and Sabrina Hendershott Benefit from 2 to 8 PM in Marshalltown.
