The Gladbrook Auxiliary hosted a 93rd birthday party for the American Legion with a 6:30 pm potluck at the Memorial Building on Monday March 12, 2012. Special guests were: Max Morrison of Traer, Tama County Commander along with Bob Mohr and Leland Staker recognized for 65 and 60 years of Legion membership. A good group of members were present to enjoy the food and the balmy spring weather. The food was served by Maxine Bottema, Terri Luehring and Andrea Warren. President Jeanne Paustian welcomed everyone and introduced John and Pat Clausen as they led us in song with June Bessman at the piano. We closed with the traditional singing of the service songs and thanked those present for their service. She announced the coming Government Day on April 11 and our next meeting at Westbrook Acres at 2pm on Monday, April 9. The Juniors will be collecting puzzle books and stamp books for the residents at the IVH along with pop tabs. They should be left at Peace Church. The Juniors will have their District Conference on Sunday, April 15 in Conrad with a 11:30am lunch and meeting following. Spring cleaning in the building will be started by the ladies on Monday, March 19 at 8:30am. If you can help for a couple hours, it would be much appreciated. The men will start mopping, stripping and waxing the floors on Tuesday. Commander Terry Schmitz graciously accepted the traditional birthday cake baked by Maxine from Jeanne as we all sang Happy Birthday. The evening adjourned with ‘God Bless America’.
