Mark and Lisa Cooper of Garwin would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Sara Cooper, to Brad Smith of Cedar Rapids. Sara is a 2007 GMG graduate and Brad graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2005. Both attended Iowa State University, where Brad majored in Aerospace Engineering graduating in 2010. Sara majored in Kinesiology-Health Fitness Management and graduated in 2011. Sara is employed as a fitness specialist at Rockwell Collins Recreation Center. Brad is an engineer at Electro-Hydrolic Automation in Cedar Rapids. The couple plans an October 20, 2012 wedding at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. A fairytale engagement took place on September 19, 2011. Brad is a pilot and asked Sara to ride with him to take aerial pictures of her home place south of Garwin. Unbeknownst to Sara this day had been months in the planning. Brad and Mark Cooper and their neighbor had diligently worked out “MARRY ME SARA” in 100x100 foot letters in the hay field. The letters were cut as Brad rode the 4-wheeler and Larry followed with the tractor and 6 foot mower – all in a rain storm. The day of the momentous flight, Sara, who is an avid flier, became quite nauseous. Thinking if she looked down toward the ground she could orient herself and feel better. As she looked down toward the hayfield, there – in big bold letters – was the proposal. In utter amazement she turned back to Brad who was holding a gorgeous diamond ring.
