Pat Clausen hosted Alpha Study Club at Gifts of Grace on January 24th at 1:30 p.m. Deb Wentzien, Vice President opened the meeting with very appropriate reading by Steve Goodier titled “‘The Gift of Age”, leaving us with a positive attitude about aging. The secretary’s report was approved as read. There were no changes in the treasurer’s report. The library committee will be doing something for the librarians on Valentine’s Day. Being no other business, Kathy Herink introduced Maxine Schoel, who gave her book review on “Here If You Need Me”, a true story written by Kate Braestrup. This is a well-written book and an easy read. Kate relates how she and her four young children bore their grief after her husband and their father, (Drew,) was killed in a car crash while he was on duty as a Maine State Police officer. Still grieving, Kate decides to become a minister because that is what Drew Wanted to do after he retired from the state police. Upon graduation, she was hired by the State of Maine as the chaplain to the state game wardens. She tells of some of the many search and rescue missions in which she participated. She wrote, “I have a job that requires me mostly to just show up, shut up and be.” A delicious chocolate-cherry dessert and drink were served. The next meeting will be on February 14th at the Peace Church with Shirley Young as the hostess. Deb closed the meeting with a story in “Dreams Are Renewable” by Steve Goodier, who writes a free online newsletter of life’ love and laughter.
