The new year began with the Gladbrook Legion hosting an appreciation soup supper at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 9 in the Memorial Building. Chili, oyster stew and potato soup was served as they thanked the Auxiliary members, Lincoln and Gladbrook Volunteer fire departments and the G-L Ambulance service for their services to the community. After the meal, each group retired for their separate meetings. Jeanne opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced our new members present for their initiation into the Auxiliary organization. Six officers answered roll call and participated in the service We have four new members: Joyce Bern, June Klinefelter, Kim Thompson and Betty Schmitz with Joyce and June able to come. Our membership goal of 257 has again been met and we thank our old and new members for their help in achieving it. A short business meeting was held. No minutes or finance report was given. Correspondence was read with a thank you from the Gladbrook Foundation for our donation to the digital improvements for the theater. Their goal has been reached and the theater will be closed January 19-23 as the equipment is installed. Thank you’s were also received for the Senior Citizens dinner/party served by the Auxiliary in the City Center Festival of Trees in December. Pat Oettchen has announced that she will be having sewing days on Thursday, January 19 at 9am. We have lots of materials ready and asked those with sewing machines to bring them, but we also need volunteers to cut and roll. We have already donated over 150# of materials to the IVH for their rug making project. Dinner will be soup with everyone asked to bring a can of soup (not cream) for the pot. If we get enough volunteers to sew on Friday, we will or members can take materials home to work on. We are again asked to save gift bags for the Kids Shopping Day planned again for Christmas. Also gifts for men and older teens are needed. This was indeed a fun project for all involved especially for the children who just couldn’t wait to see if grandma or dad liked the gift they had chosen. Our next meeting will again be a joint meeting with the Legion and a supper will be served at 6:30pm on Monday, February 13. We were reminded that the Legion will be serving their first pancake breakfast of the new year on Sunday, January 22 and they would appreciate our support.
