Gladbrook United Methodist Women

December 30, 2011
Northern-Sun Print
Christmas music welcomed 23 UMW ladies to their annual Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday, December 21. Mary Appelgate, Kay Lowry, JoAnn Sash, and Becky Fish’s friend Luba prepared the delicious food. Rose Mary McKinney had placed a jar of homemade pickles at each place. Thanks Rose Mary. Anita Elmore, outgoing president, presided at the business meeting. The minutes of the November meeting were read and approved. Diane Mussig sent a Treasurer’s Report. Outstanding bills were approved. Anita presented a gift to Barb Strohbehn to thank her for the baby blankets that she makes for the babies who are baptized and for the greeting cards she provides. Bonnie Murty won the door prize. At the close of the meeting, Anita installed the officers for 2012: President, June Klinefelter; Vice President, Joyce Bruene; Secretary, Bonnie Murty; and Treasurer, Marcy Knaack. Anita presented a gift to each new and outgoing officer. Thanks Anita. Martha Gamble was responsible for the devotions and program. The group read a poem “In the Eyes of a Child”, by Phyllis Michael. Each member showed and told about a bear that was dear to her. A poster “God Loves You ‘Beary Much’” was on display. Kathy Herink received a handmade baby blanket because she has the youngest grandchild. Programs for 2012 were distributed. Phyllis Willer and Virginia Laus’ names should be added to the list of UMW Special Friends. Deb Koester, Church Historian, took a group picture. It has been a successful year and we want to thank Anita for her leadership.
