Lots of news at the Gladbrook Theater!

December 16, 2011

This week at the Gladbrook Theater bring your kids and/or grandkids to see “Arthur Christmas.” Ever wonder how billions of presents get delivered all in one night? The family comedy at last reveals the incredible, never before seen answer to every child’s question: “So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?” Santa’s exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole, that’s how! But, at the heart of the film is a story, is a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns. “Arthur Christmas” runs 100 minutes and is rated PG for some mild rude humor. On the fundraising front, this past Saturday was the Lion’s Club Soup Day. They have donated all the proceeds to the Digital/3D fundraising campaign. $1700 was taken in for the soup dinner and another $1300 in donation checks. All total $3000 was donated to the digital/3D fund. That puts us very close to our $80,000 needed for the equipment and installation. Anyone wishing to donate still can. As with any new project there are always little things that pop up that also have to be paid for. All monies donated to the theater will be put to good use now or in the future. The winning ticket for the quilt raffle was drawn by our Corn Cob Queen, Rose Russell, at the end of the soup day. Our winner is Dale Langenbau from Garwin. He and his family were not present but were very excited with the news when I called them. Don’t forget to come and walk through the Festival of Trees. It truly puts you in the holiday spirit. So far, the WOW and the Sr. Citizen groups have had luncheons surrounded by the beautiful Christmas surroundings. If you have a club meeting or luncheon coming up yet and would like to have it upstairs surrounded by Christmas lights, give me a call at 641-473-2410. That’s all for this week, see you at the movies!
