The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted the December Senior Citizens Dinner at the City Centre on Friday, December 9. Nearly 60 seniors enjoyed a dinner with ham, wedding potatoes, corn, jello salad, rolls, mint ice cream Christmas trees and chocolate cookies surrounded by the beauty of the “Festival of Trees”. Everyone received a snowman favor made by Gladbrook Junior Auxiliary and a box of Godiva chocolates from the Auxiliary. Sue Koster played Christmas carols before the meal. Community Service Chairman Karen Pieper welcomed everyone and read a poem entitled “Christmas Greetings”. Each place setting had a quiz of different Christmas song titles for the group to figure out before dinner. Karen read the answers. Pastor Robert P. Doner gave the prayer. After the meal Doug and Sandy Koester of Davenport sang Christmas carols accompanied by Sue Koster. Everyone left in a very festive mood. The seniors received Santa Sacks courtesy of the Gladbrook Commercial Club. Serving the meal were Karen Pieper, Jeanne Paustian, Arlene Horstmann, Marcia Schmidt, Jodi Betts, Sue Koster, Betty Dahms, and JoAnn Ruopp. The next Seniro Citizens Dinner will be Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church.
