Message From Our Mayor

I hope that everyone got plenty to eat on Thanksgiving Day and now have your diet started so you can break it during Christmas.  I know a lot of you watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.  Did you know that it was the 85th Macy’s parade? That is a long tradition but on June 29, 2012 we will be having the 90th Corn Carnival Parade.  Now that’s a tradition! Right before Thanksgiving I sent out 20 letters to several residents about untended or non licensed vehicles on their property.  I would like to thank those who took care of the problem.  There are only two or three people who haven’t addressed this problem.  We will be taking further action on these vehicles. The water project is going well and S.L. Baumeier is on time.  The goal is to be done with water pipe by the first of the year.  For the most part we are down to hooking up individual residences.  Due to the age of some of the water and sewer lines there is no record of them.  S.L. has hit a couple of old water lines and two unmarked gas lines which have made for some delay and inconvenience for some people.  With old unmarked sewer lines we have bored through one and have crushed a couple.  This has caused backup in a few basements.  We apologize for the mess and inconvenience that this has caused. All of this made more work for S.L. and his men.  I really appreciate their going the extra mile to solve the problems as much as possible.  Also this has made for some long days and weekends for Mark Lowry.  Both he and Bud deserve a lot of credit and thanks for working as long as it takes to get the job done. Next Monday night, December 12, will be the last council meeting for Mandy Gehring and Brad Smoldt.  Both have been excellent council members and deserve a big thank you for their service to our community.  THANK YOU! We are going into the time of the year that we will be seeing snow.  Please help out Mark and have your cars and trucks off the streets so he can get them plowed in time for you to go to work. As the year is coming to an end, remember the theatre fund drive.  This Saturday, December 10th  will be the Lions Club Soup Day.  It will be a free will donation with all money taken in going to the theatre.  Come and have a good meal and give to a good project. Jo and I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Keith Sash, Mayor
