The Rebels started out the 2011-2012 season last week with wins over Denver and South Hardin. On Tuesday the Rebels traveled to Denver and defeated the Cyclones 92-74. Friday saw the Rebels play their first home game of the year and defeat South Hardin 120-63. Denver In the Denver game the Rebels were able to build an early lead of 57-42 at halftime. The Rebels came out a bit flat in the third quarter and also found themselves in a bit of foul trouble! Denver has a good team with good athletes and they battled hard in the second half and were able to cut into the lead on a couple of occasions. To the Rebels credit they worked through the adversity and won the game. Ten players scored for the Rebels led by Paige Thompson with 26. Emily Stoakes followed her with 16, Emily Snider 13, Emily Dinsdale 12, Addi Kickbush 10, Erin Wentzien 7, Jenna Roeding 4, Britney Keller 2, Rachel Bown 1, and Brittany Shinn 1. Emily Stoakes and Jenna Roeding did a nice job of rebounding as they had 12 and 11. Emily Dinsdale pulled down 8 and Addi Kickbush 4. Paige Thompson had 7 assists, Emily Dinsdale 4, and Emily Snider 3. Emily Stoakes had 8 steals for the game, Emily Snider and Paige Thompson 4 each. The Rebels met 3 of their 5 system goals in this ballgame: shots 80 (86); offensive rebound percentage 40% (50%): and forced turnovers 30 (31).
South Hardin The Rebels first quarter outburst of 43 points is the largest point total in a quarter since we have been playing 5 on 5 girls basketball. (I’m sure some of you don’t and some do remember the old 6 on 6 days!) The Rebels used that start to propel themselves to a 120-63 victory. Again ten players scored in this game led this time by Emily Dinsdale with a career high of 29. Addi Kickbush and Paige Thompson each finished with 21, Jenna Roeding scored 11, Emily Snider 10, Emily Stoakes 10, Erin Wentzien 7, Britney Keller 5, Rachel Bowen 4, and Taylor Flamme 2. The Rebels are really going hard to the offensive boards, which have led to several second chance shots this season. This was a game that filled up the stat sheet as all players contributed. We finished with 46 rebounds, 35 assists, 28 steals, and 6 blocked shots! The Rebels met all 5 of their system goals: shots 80 (115); 3point shots 35 (35); offensive rebound percentage 40% (46%); forced turnovers 30 (41); and shot differential +25 (+30).
If “The System” works..........
