Gladbrook Auxiliary hosts Veterans Day event
December 9, 2011
The Gladbrook Auxiliary hosted their annual Veterans Day Potluck on Tuesday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. by welcoming special guests and members to a plentiful table of food. Hostesses were Trudy Scott, Deb Harre and Becky Fevold. Prayer was offered by Chaplain Joyce Swangel. Our program for the evening included a video of the WWII Honor Flight orientation which included Fred Seda and Gene as they prepared for the long one day trip to Washington DC. Linda and Greg Randolph were also escorts on this trip from Waterloo this past summer. We also had Ray Landt and Bob Mohr present as they told of their trips also this summer. Max Beck and Bob departed with a Cedar Rapids group. All reported that it was an experience of a lifetime as they particularly enjoyed school children who approached the veterans to shake their hands and thank them for their service. Sue Koster at the piano lead the group in the service songs, which is always a favorite for the evening. Commander Terry Schmitz then introduced his officers and his special guests. Department Commander Dennis Soppe and his wife Jayne from West Union gave greetings from the state office and Brent Wightman of Waverly, District Commander also brought news from the district. The evening concluded with all singing ‘God Bless America’.
