Alpha Study

November 25, 2011
Northern-Sun Print
The Alpha Study Club met at the home of Pat Goos on Tuesday, November 8th.  President Shirley Young opened the meeting with a reading “Life as a Pencil”.  Twenty-one members answered roll call by telling what they liked about the Nature Trail.  Some interesting stories were revealed.  The secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were given.  Due to the resignation of Mary Luethje, Shirley appointed Jean Livingston to fill the vacant position of parliamentarian.  Our club has been asked if members would like to donate gently used items, or new if one wishes, for the children of the community to pick out gifts for family members for Christmas.  Those wishing to participate shall bring the items to the next meeting. Marge Grove gave an interesting and amusing book report on the book “Pioneer Woman:  Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, a Love Story” by Ree Drummond.  The author began blogging in 2006 and has built www.thepioneerwoman.com into an award winning web site.   She started this on a whim to keep her Mother, who lived in Tennessee, up to date on their family.  Then it grew to include recipes, home schooling advice, photography and documents of her hilarious transition from city life to ranch wife.  Ree lives on a working cattle ranch near Pawhuska, OK with her husband Ladd (whom she always refers to him as “Marlboro Man”) and their five children.  Her website now gets more than 20 million hits a month.  She also has a food network series taped in her kitchen of the guest house which debuted in August. Pat then served a delicious cranberry dessert.  The next meeting will be in the home of Shirley Swenson.
