Message From Our Mayor

November 25, 2011
Northern-Sun Print
It’s time for another letter from the mayor and I’m having a hard time coming up with something to write about.  So here goes with some rambling thoughts. Let’s start with the election.  Congratulations to Dan DeWitt and Trudi Scott on getting elected.  I know it was a hard fought campaign for all three of us.  Just kidding but isn’t it great that we have two new council members who did step forward and volunteer giving of their time in helping run our city government.  If you watch the papers you would notice that a lot of towns didn’t have those kind of caring individuals to elect.  Thanks to both for caring about Gladbrook and its future.  Also thanks to Mandy and Brad for the time they have given to the city. Just a quick update on our water project to let everyone know that it is going very well.  S.L. Baumeier is making excellent time and we have had very few problems.  S.L.’s crew started with laying pipes on Highway 96 by the Mid Iowa station and currently are on 1st St. going up West Hill.  There have been some unexpected interruptions in services but they are few and were solved in a short time.  Mark Lowry has tried to keep everyone informed about outages through Code Red but that doesn’t always work.  If you see work going on in your area, have no water or get a blast of air when turning on the faucet, I would suggest that you leave the water run for a few minutes to get the rust out. I hope everyone saw the article in last weeks paper on the fund drive for the new theatre equipment.  With $64,000 raised, it is going great.  If you haven’t given yet please stop by the theatre and talk to JoAnn Ruopp or anyone on the committee.  We need $16,000 more to accomplish our goal.  It would be great to have it all pledged or given by Christmas.  Please help. We are coming into the holiday season when we all will be seeing a lot of family and friends.  I hope all of you will follow my example and don’t eat too much. Keith Sash, Mayor PS  Thanks to all the veterans who have made our country, state and city a great place to live!
