By Darren Trunck, coordinator Our future looks bright for Rebel Football after another successful season concluded with a home game on Sunday October 16th for our youth football program. The two teams finished with a combined record of 11-1. G-R Lightning, coached by Barry Thede, Eric Wrage, Brian Hall and Steve McGee, finished the season with a 6-0 record while G-R Thunder went 5-1, with a narrow defeat at the hands of a very tough Bondurant-Farrar team. G-R Thunder was coached by John Johannsen, Mike Peterson, Shannon Clark and Rob Saak. Practice started August 16th for the coaches and players. The season kicked off at our high school sports drink football scrimmage where the players showcased their skills at half-time under the field lights. A conference jamboree followed on Saturday, August 27th and then games were played every Sunday for six weeks. This is a 5th and 6th grade padded football league directed by Youth Sports Foundation out of Muscatine, Iowa. The Thunder and Lightning belong in the Mid Iowa Conference which includes teams from: Iowa Falls, South Hardin, Bondurant-Farrar, BCLUW, AGWSR, Blairsburg and Grundy Center. Thank you to all of our volunteers and current high school football players who helped at our two home games this year. Special thanks to our great coaching staffs as they taught these young men the proper fundamentals and skills to help them at the next level.
