Monday morning, October 31, the Tama County Board of Supervisors met with Bill Christenson for the purpose of changing the F Plain permit designee. Previously this program has been handled by the Emergency Management. However with the new Emergency Management Director, Ryan Currens, he is not interested in handling this position. Bill Christensen, County Sanitarian and Zoning Commissioner, has agreed to take this position. This position is for changing creeks, (straightening) and at the direction of the Army Corps of Engineers. A public hearing has been set for the CDBG Status-Home Ownership Program, requested by Mike Wentzien. This will be on November 21, 2011, at 10:A.M. in the Supervisors office. County Treasurer Michelle Yuska was present to request the abadement of some mobile homes, Thisw was for Leann Kane in the amount of $402 for 2010, 2011 and part of 2012, tax, penalty and costs. A court order was received on October 21, 2011 establishing abandonment and removal, right to sell or dispose granted to Norman Gossard, Garwin. Gossard will pay taxes from date of court order forward in the amount of $84.00. Bertha Perez-Lopez in the amount of $140 for 2011 year, tax and penalty. The mobile home was junked on July 15, 2011 with a junking certificate presented. Mobile Home park owners reported the mobile home was torn down on Apeil 20, 2010. Ofeba Dillingham for a mobile home destroyed by fire, ordered removed as a nuisance. The court order was on November 12, 2010 with $462 against it for one half of 2010, 2011 and 2012, taxes and penalty. Jeanette or Lyle Walker in the amount of 1257.00 for taxes and penalties for 2008-09-10-11, A court order was issued on May 21, 2010 to remove as abandoned on October 7, 2010. Lyle Brehm, County Engineer, gave his weekly road report stating he had been preparing bids for work on Highway D65, starting at US63 and going west 3 miles to the north intersection of N Avenue. Bids for the project had been received by the Iowa Department of Transportation with the low bid from PCI at $1,991,612.86. Brehm had the contract from the IDOT, and told supervisors if they would approve the contract it would be sent to the contractor, signed and returned to Tama County Supervisors for their signature. Brehm says the road department has been busy hauling some rock, performing minor shouder work. Most of the rock work involves pulling the rock up against the pavement to minimize the drop off from the pavement. A contractor has been hired to lengthen a box culvert on Highway V37 north of Dysart. The existing culvert does not allow for much of a shoulder. Work on the culvert is under way at the present time. Brehm says work continues on the bridge over the Iowa River on C Avenue north of U.S. Highway 30, and may be open yet this week. Work is bein done on some fence rows. Some of this work is already completed along Highway E43 east of N Avenue. A fence will frequently create a snow trap and will collect dirt and grass. With the crops out in most places, Brehm told supervisors it is a good time of year to remove fences the landowner no longer desires and blade down the fence row. This can make a significance difference to driving snow collecting on a road. Landowners interested in this type of work are asket to contact the Engineers office at 641-484-3341. Skip Lowe, President and Jane Underwood, Senior Account Executive of Bernie Lowe and Associates of Ankeny were present to report on the first quarter results of the County’s Insurance claims. Claims for the past week came to $172,900.33.
