People in the News - Darci Kimball

Darci Kimball of Spring Valley, California, daughter of Leland and Linda Frahm of Garwin, was recently presented with a glass statuette at a televised event honoring the top ten teachers out of 2600 nominated for 2012 Teacher of the Year for San Diego County, California. The top five go on to compete in the California Teacher of the Year competition. Darci’s statuette congratulated her for placing 6th. For the competition Darci’s classroom was visited, was given a personal and written interview, had a written essay critiqued and had some of her students and fellow teachers interviewed. Darci is a 1992 GMG graduate, attended MCC and graduated from UNI with a BS in Biology with teaching credentials and has a Masters Degree in Education from San Diego State. Darci is presently teaching Accelerated Biology, Medical Biology and Medical Chemistry plus being the Health and Medical Career Pathway Coordinator at Castle Park High School in Chula Vista. In June Darci presented a proposal to the California State Board of Education to encourage more high school students to consider Biological Engineering as a career choice. This proposal was sponsored by private industry in the San Diego area. Darci is still to receive a monetary award and a gift from Sony Corporation for her top ten finish in the teacher of the year competition for San Diego County.
