Master Sergeant Steven Hoing

Master Sergeant Steven Hoing, son of former residents Janice and Earl Hoing, and grandson of the late Elmer and Evelyn Koester of Gladbrook, retired from the Air Force after 23 plus years of service, August 23, 2011. MgSt Hoing served in a number of Southwest Asia countries, with his last tour in Afghanistan. Major awards earned during his career were a Bronze Star medal, Meritorious Service medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Meritorious Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement with one oak leaf cluster, among many others. The retirement ceremony was conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Jason D. Nahrgang, Commander, 50th Force Support, Schreiver AFB, Colorado. Among those attending the ceremony were Steve’s wife, Teri, a son, Chad, an uncle Ed Hoing, and his parents. Steve and Teri have two sons, Chad and Chase going to college in Boulder, Colorado. After his retirement, Steve and Teri plan to travel extensively.
