Gladbrook Senior Citizens Dinner

July 15, 2011

The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted the Senior Citizens Dinner at the Memorial Building on July 8th. The tables were decorated with red, white, and blue decorations with flag napkins and poppy centerpieces in honor of the 4th of July. The group treated 47 seniors to a pan-fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes & gravy, frozen corn, fruit, and homemade pie. For the entertainment, Angela Haugen played her gutair and sang several patriotic songs and hymns. Angela is a very talented singer and musician. Angela is a friend of Karen Pieper the Auxiliary Community Service Chairman. With this dinner, the first year of the rebirth of the senior citzens dinners have come to a close. It has been a very successful year. Thanks to the seniors and all the groups that have helped serve including: Gladbrook Auxiliary, Chapel, Gladbrook Methodist, and Peace Church ladies' groups, Gladbrook Women's Club, and the Peace Church Sr. YF. There will not be a dinner in August as were all taking a "vacation". The senior dinner in September will be Sept. 9th, 11:30 at the Independent Living with the Westbrook employees serving. Ervin and Pat Oettchen will continue to take the reservations.
