GMG wins Class B at BGM

BROOKLYN - Five event victories propelled the GMG girls' track and field team to first place in the Class B standings at the Bear Classic Relays Thursday. GMG's 147 points outdistanced Sigourney (129) and Twin Cedars (99) in the eight-team meet. Emily Havelka collected 28 points for her four events, winning both hurdles races. She took the 100-meter hurdles in 17.73 seconds and was tops in the 400 lows in 1:12.53. Havelka and teammate Caitlin Appelgate shared a tie for second place in the high jump, going 4 feet, 8 inches, while Havelka picked up one point for finishing sixth in the long jump. GMG's Kristine Kienzle took first in the shot put (33-4 1/2) and Jamie Hlas beat teammate Sharice Clough for a 1-2 Wolverine finish in the 1,500. Hlas won in 5:56.32. Hlas and Clough placed 2-3 in the 3,000, while other runner-up results came from Jennifer Borota in the 400 and the 4x100 team of Melody Beane, Appelgate, Sara Hinson and Mikaella Koster.
