Garwin local receives postseason basketball honor

PELLA—Junior guard Cory Bacon (Garwin, GMG HS) has been honored for her contributions to the Central College women’s basketball team this season at the squad’s recent awards banquet. Bacon received the team’s Hustle Award and her first varsity letter. Competing in 25 games, Bacon averaged 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds. She had a team-best 64 assists, including a personal-best seven against Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) Nov. 15, 2010. Bacon also recorded 22 steals and four blocks. She posted a career-best 14 points against Martin Luther (Minn.) Nov. 20, 2010. The Dutch compiled a 5-20 overall record with a 2-13 Iowa Conference mark. Central has won six league titles with five NCAA Division III playoff appearances in the past 16 years. Twelve letterwinners will return for the 2011-12 season.
