Boys CONRAD - A cardback determined medalist honors and the fifth individual score broke a tie between BCLUW and Gladbrook-Reinbeck in a boys' golf triangular Tuesday at Oakwood Golf Course. The host Comets collected all the hardware, earning the top two individual spots and a three-stroke advantage from the fifth score gave BCLUW the team victory. The Comets and Rebels tied with a 172, while GMG, with only four golfers, was third (238). Cole Thompson was awarded the meet medalist honors and Jimmy Sharp was the runner-up after a cardback as both were tied at 41, leading BCLUW to victory. Joel Steckelburg and Tyler Smith shot 45 to round out the Comet scoring, but Chad Frazer's 46 came into play as well to break the team tie. Kevin Trobaugh and Brady Billerbeck both shot 41 to lead G-R, and Parker Bolt added a 42. Austin Harris rounded out the team scoring with his 48, and Taylor Harris' 49 was used in the team tiebreaker. Chad Plaehn led GMG with a 46, followed by Chris Reed's 49.
GIRLS BCLUW wins triangular at Reinbeck REINBECK - Runner-up medalist Maddie Olson and Morgan Trinkle both shot 54 as BCLUW won a girls' golf triangular to open the seson Tuesday. Brianne Benjamin added a 55 and Shannon McCoy 64 at Oak Leaf Country Club as the Comets had a 227 team total. Gladbrook-Reinbeck was second at 242 and GMG third at 304. G-R senior Lauren Bengen ran away with medalist honors after shooting 46. Bengen had a birdie 2 on the par-3 ninth hole. Olson had the meet's other birdie with her two on hole No. 6. Siera Richter led GMG with a 68.
