Scoring frenzy nets national mark for G-R, West Marshall

February 11, 2011

REINBECK - Keeping score of a Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls' basketball game can be a challenging endeavor. The type of game you may want to have an extra pen on hand for because you could run out of ink. The Rebels make it no secret they want to get up the floor quick and shoot the basketball as soon as possible. In games involving Iowa's leader in points per game, the scoreboard changes in a flash. Scoreboard operators beware. West Marshall also has some ability to put the ball in the basket and the Trojans were the opponent for Gladbrook-Reinbeck Monday in NICL West Division play. February 7, 2011 will go down as the day the scoreboard never quit. The Rebels won 122-118 over West Marshall in double overtime. "I didn't think there was that much time to have that many points," said West Marshall head coach Fred Zeller, a winner of over 500 career games. The 240 combined points shattered the previous national record for highest scoring game.
