January 28 The BCL-UW Comets came calling and went home in defeat as the Rebels won the ballgame by the score of 90-66. The Rebels had blown the Comets out on their floor just before Christmas. I thought BCL-UW did a much better job this time of taking away some of the things that we try and do offensively. To the ladies credit they adjusted to what the Comets were doing and were able to find points elsewhere. The Rebels once again met all of their goals for the game: shots (88); 3’s (30); offensive rebounds (45%); forced turnovers (32); and more shots than opponent (+29). Lauren Bengen had her third straight 30+-point game as she finished with an even 30 for the night. Addi Kickbush had a big second half as she scored all 17 of her points after intermission. Emily Dinsdale finished with 13, Jenna Roeding 9, Emily Stoakes 7, Emily Snider 6, Paige Thompson 4, Britney Keller 2, and Erin Wentzien 2. Emily Stoakes led in rebounding with 6, Lauren Bengen 4, and Jenna Roeding 4. Lauren had 5 steals for the game, Emily Stoakes 4, and Jenna with 3.
January 29 The Class 1A No. 8th ranked North Tama Redhawks flew into town, but left with their feathers ruffled as the Rebels defeated them by the score of 70-60. The Rebels started fast in this game and had a commanding 26-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Rebels and Redhawks traded baskets in the second quarter and the score at halftime was 43-29. This is where it gets interesting. The Rebels went stone cold in the third quarter and scored a season low 11 points and held a 54-48 lead going into the final stanza. Lauren Bengen fouled out early in the fourth quarter (which made Coach Boheman scramble to find the no Lauren card). The Redhawks took a 57-56 lead with four minutes remaining in the game. From that point on the Rebels went on a 14-3 run fueled by an Emily Dinsdale 3 and some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to secure the win. I knew this team had it, but they really showed me tonight that they had it, HEART. You can’t coach it, you can’t teach it, you just have it, and this team does. Addi Kickbush had her second straight 17-point game to lead the Rebels tonight. Lauren Bengen finished with 11, Emily Dinsdale 10, Jenna Roeding 9, Emily Stoakes 8, Emily Snider 5, Paige Thompson 4, Erin Wentzien 4, and Taylor Flamme 2. Jenna Roeding had a career high on the boards as she pulled down 18 big rebounds. Addi followed her with 5, Emily Stoakes with 4, Paige with 3, Erin 2, and Lauren 2. The Rebels combined for 29 steals for the game led by Emily Stoakes with 9 at the back end of our press. There are two kids that don’t always get mentioned in these articles, Taylor Flamme and Britney Keller. These two young ladies come in and contribute each time they are rotated threw. They are a big, big part of what we do. Nice job ladies!
